Heat your home with air conditioning

Modern Mitsubishi Electric air conditioning heats as well as cools. As an air-to-air heat pump, it moves heat from the outside air into your rooms, giving you around 4 to 5 units of heat for every unit of electricity it uses.

How air conditioning heats

Heat from the outside air

The outdoor unit draws heat from outside air, even when it's cold. Popular Mitsubishi Electric models keep heating down to −15°C.

4–5 units of heat per unit used

Seasonal efficiency (SCOP) for Mitsubishi Electric wall units is typically around 4.5 to 5.2, compared with 1 for plug-in or panel heaters.

Warm rooms, fast

Heats the rooms you use, when you use them, with optional app control. The same unit cools you down in summer.

What does a unit of heat cost?

Comparing the cost of producing 1 kWh of heat, using current average energy prices:

Based on Ofgem price cap averages for 1 October to 31 December 2026, paying by direct debit: electricity 26.32p/kWh, gas 7.97p/kWh (Ofgem). Electricity currently has no VAT until 31 March 2027. Unit rates only; standing charges are not included. Gas boiler assumed 90% efficient. MSZ-LN25 SCOP from its Eurovent certification. SCOP is a standard seasonal rating; real running costs depend on your home's insulation, the weather, the installation and how you use the system. Energy prices change every quarter.

Good to know

Heating, not hot water

Air-to-air units heat the air in your rooms. They don't heat water, so you'll still need your boiler or a cylinder for hot water. Many people keep their radiators as a backup.

Where it works best

Living rooms, bedrooms, extensions, conservatories, garden rooms and home offices. Also homes on electric heating, or alongside gas to use the boiler less.

No government grant

Air-to-air heat pumps aren't covered by the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which is for systems that heat water. Running costs fall further if you have solar panels.
